You may be asking yourself what snacks you should bring on a road trip – well look no further! This list of healthy snacks is perfect when you don’t want to pack a heavy cooler and just want to get in the car and go!

Below are ten categories of healthy snack options for you and anyone else you’re packing for. The items I’ve listed here are all things I and my family eat on a regular basis. None of these are affiliate links or sponsored, I’m just passing on items that I and my family have found we liked after trying many we didn’t.

List of Healthy Road Trip Snack Ideas (Non Refrigerated)

Fresh Fruit

While not all fresh fruit will work without being in the refrigerator (I’m looking at you, cantaloupe), there are several options that work well. The most common are bananas, apples, and oranges. These all don’t have to be eaten with a utensil and are okay for hours without being refrigerated.

Dried Fruit

If fresh fruit isn’t your thing, dried fruit may work better for you. There are a ton of options here, both for a single type of dried fruit and for fruit medleys. Some favorites of ours are dried figs, dried mango, dried cranberries, and a dried fruit berry medley (like the Made In Nature one pictured).

Fruit Chips

Another fruit option is fruit chips, like the Bare Apple Chips shown in the picture, or any other type of chip (banana, plantain, etc). They’re great on their own (I eat the banana ones like candy, they’re so good) or dipped into a spread. And speaking of, next up on this list is…

Nut Butters

These are great to eat with other items on this list, and what’s even better is you can get them in single serving packets like the Justin’s Almond Butter in the picture. They provide some protein if you need to eat quickly and are really convenient. However if you’d like the real deal, then go with…

Nuts

Super portable, raw or roasted nuts are a go-to for easy snacking. Cashews and almonds are our favorites, but get creative here if you like. Pistachios, macadamia nuts, whatever sounds good to you,

Meat Snack Sticks and Bars

These might sound gross, but I promise they’re not. Meat bars (or sticks) come in really handy when you forgot lunch and are getting hangry. There are a lot of different kinds out there, but my absolute favorite are Chomps Meat Sticks, DNX bars, and Wild Zora bars. These ones aren’t dry, they have great flavor, and bonus, if you’re doing a Whole30 most of them are compatible.

Fruit Snack Bars

In case you’re counting, this is the fourth fruit option. It’s amazing what they can do with fruit, like pack it into a bar to make it super portable. The ones by Kind (in the bottom left corner of the picture) are great, as are the That’s It fruit bars as they have very simple ingredients and taste really good.

Popcorn

This snack is a favorite in our house, especially when it’s flavored with butter and eaten while watching a movie. But it also works well when you need something on the go. I’ve pictured Skinny Popregular salted popcorn in the photo above, but there are a bunch of different kinds now in addition to plain popcorn. I’m not talking about just cheese and kettle corn, but also lots of other fun flavors. And now I’m hungry.

Pretzels

Since I eat gluten free, my recommendation is for a gluten free pretzel. These can taste like sawdust, but the GF pretzel landscape has come a long way! These Snyder gluten free pretzels in the picture taste just like regular pretzels; my kids can’t even tell the difference. Just be careful not to have your family eat the whole bag in one sitting, because these suckers go fast.

Crackers

The last item on this list is a staple in our pantry and our travel snacks. Especially with kids, crackers are a must. We’ve got two favorites with different textures – the Nut Thins are great for a really crunchy, crisp cracker and the Simple Mills crackers are a bit softer but equally as great. I’ve tried several others but these two are definitely our go-tos.

And that’s it! I hope this list was helpful for those looking to find non refrigerated healthy road trip snacks. Next time you’re headed on the road or packing up a lunch, come back to this list to get some inspiration.
