How to manage Dropbox mobile app settings (2024)

The features described in this article apply to all Dropbox customers.

This article discusses how to manage account-wide settings on the Dropbox mobile app.

How to access your account settings

To access your Dropbox mobile app account settings:

  1. Log into the Dropbox mobile app with your Dropbox account.
  2. Tap the Account button on the bottom of your screen.
  3. Tap the How to manage Dropbox mobile app settings (1) (gear icon) in the top right.
  1. Launch the Dropbox app.
  2. Tap the menu icon (stacked horizontal lines).
  3. Tap the How to manage Dropbox mobile app settings (2) (gear icon) to open the Settings menu.

General

From the Dropbox mobile app, you can:

  • Add or update your profile picture.
  • View your available storage space.
  • Manage offline files.
  • Create, save, and sync unique passwords.

Note: Dropbox Passwords is only available for customers on Dropbox Basic, Plus, Family, Professional, Standard, Advanced, and Enterprise.

  • Connect a computer.
  • Manage camera uploads.
  • Recover deleted files.


To access these features from your Account page:

  1. Launch the Dropbox app.
  2. Tap theAccountbutton on the bottom of your screen.

How to manage your mobile Dropbox app settings

Offline files

You can make your Dropbox files and folders available offline on your mobile device. This is similar to downloading your files and folders, except it also keeps them in Dropbox, so they’re saved offline on your device as well as online on dropbox.com.

Use cellular data

When this is toggled on, Dropbox will download offline files using the data plan associated with your mobile device. If the toggle is not on, offline files will only download when you’re connected to Wi-Fi.


Passcode

You can set up a four-digit passcode to secure access to your account on your mobile device. If you have the passcode lock activated, you’ll be required to enter it each time you launch or return to the Dropbox app. You can change your passcode or turn it off at anytime from yourSettingsscreen.

Files

The Dropbox mobile app allows you to create and upload files directly to your Dropbox account from your phone or tablet. Uploaded files sync everywhere you access your files in Dropbox.

Clear history

TappingClear search historywill clear the search data from your Dropbox mobile app.


Clear cache

TappingClear cachewill clear the files stored locally on your mobile device. This may improve speed and functionality when using the Dropbox mobile app.

Important: Your offline files won’t be removed from this action. Some files might take longer to load.

Managing your files on the Dropbox iOS app on File Provider

Dropbox iOS on File Provider is our latest update that utilizes Apple's updated File Provider API to more deeply integrate with mobile devices running iOS.


The Dropbox iOS app will be automatically updated onto this latest version when you update your iOS. If you would like to go back to using the classic integration (still on File Provider), you can do so following the steps below.


Actions

Tapping Convert all to classic integration will revert the app back to the classic File Provider integration on iOS.

Important: This will remove all downloaded files and any files not uploaded will be lost.

To do this:

  1. Launch the Dropbox app.
  2. Tap the Account button on the bottom of your screen.
  3. Tap the How to manage Dropbox mobile app settings (3) (gear icon) to open the Settings menu.
  4. Tap Native Files.app integration under Files.
  5. Tap Convert all to classic integration.
  6. Tap Convert.


Clear cache

Tapping Clear cache will clear the files from Files.app on your mobile device. This may improve speed and functionality when using the Dropbox iOS app.

Important: This will clear the cache for all accounts. This will remove all downloaded files and any files not uploaded will be lost.

Sharing

To share files or folders in your Dropbox account on your mobile device:

  1. Launch the Dropbox app.
  2. Tap Files at the bottom of your screen.
  3. Tap “” (vertical ellipsis on Android) or "" (ellipsis on iPhone or iPad) next to the file or folder you want to share.
  4. Tap Share.
